visit to slc

Ryan and I returned from a weekend in Salt Lake City last night. Visits to Utah are always a little bittersweet for me. I love visiting the family and friends, but am always a little sad the first few days I return home to Seattle. I hate that I feel like I'm missing my munchkins growing up. It shocks me how much Jonathan grows between my visits, and this trip was especially hard because he now seems like a boy, and not a baby. How did I miss this transition? It really just breaks my heart. Just look at how cute he is.

The reason for the visit to Salt Lake was to meet Emily, my sister's new baby. Let me tell you that she is beautiful. BEAUTIFUL. I sure do wish my sister would have an ugly baby to take some pressure off of me. But no, she continues to produce these gorgeous children.

Saturday night was pretty fantastic. We met up with a large group of friends at the Bayou for beer. Nights like these make me miss my Utah friends so much. I always tell Ryan we will never have friends in Seattle like we have back in Utah. Do you see how optimistic I am? But honestly, I made the greatest friends in college. And they'll be even more great when they rent a wood-paneled station wagon and quote Christopher Guest movies on their drive up to the Northwest to visit me. (See how sly I am at pressuring people to come visit?)

and another munchkin: emily june

Did I tell you I have a new munchkin?! My sister had her baby girl, Emily June, on May 30th. I get to meet her this Friday and I can hardly handle my excitement. She was 8 lbs. 6 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. To tell you the truth, I don't really care about baby weights and lengths, but since that seems to be what everyone wants to know, I have provided you with that information. Maybe I will care how long babies are after I have one, but until then, you don't need to bore me with those details. Just provide me with pictures.

I was amused when having a conversation with my mother the other evening. She told me she had a Nordstrom box sitting on her dresser. I was secretly hoping that box contained a fabulous pair of shoes for her youngest child, but instead she told me it held a beautiful organic nightgown for Emily. "Don't you think it's time Emily receives her first silver Nordstrom box?" DO YOU NOW SEE HOW MY ADDICTION STARTED?!

yet another munchkin

I fully realize I have been bad about blogging the last few weeks. It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I'm trying to be a good wife. Ryan thinks I'd rather cuddle up with the Internet at night than him, so I've been trying to prove to him that this is not always the case (Etsy does put up a tough competition). A few things have happened since I have last blogged, so I will play a little catchup over the next few days.

A couple weekends ago Ryan and I made a trip down to Boise to visit our newest nephew Ryan. The family fully recognizes the confusion this causes having two Ryan's in the family so they have conveniently nicknamed them "R1" and "R2". R2 is one of the most adorable babies I've ever met. HE'S SUCH A GOOD TIME! (That last sentence was just for you, KC).

In keeping with family tradition, Ryan and I did our best to teach him "Blue Steel"...

But only ended up completely freaking the kid out...

My first nephew Jonathan was also an incredibly easy baby. My mom would always look me in the eye and say "That baby is false advertising!". After meeting R2, I'm starting to think my own mom lied to me. She just wants me to wait a long time to have babies so she can spread her baby time out over as many years as possible. And the good news is that although I love babies, she definitely has a few years (or five) until I have one of my own.
